Sprat the Chihuahua

Sprat the Chihuahua came to visit us with Hamilton dog control. We learnt how to meet new dogs and keep safe around them. We all sat in a circle and Sprat walked around to be patted by each of us. He was very confident and comfortable in the centre, he liked the attention.

We learnt 7 important rules to help keep us safe with dogs:
1: If a dogs running free, stand like a tree.
2: If a dogs on its own, leave it alone.
3: Ask if it's ok before you say gidday.
4: Next to a dog's face is not the right place.
5: Pat chin or chest, that's the best.
6: If you happen to fall, role up like a ball.
7: When it's time for snack, keep well back.

Parents, these are great rules to follow at home too :)

Hangi at Rototuna

Taimi cooked us a reka (delicious) hangi today at Rototuna. We had chicken, kumera, potatoes, and pumpkin with gravy and mixed veges. Yum!
Thank you Taimi for our hangi!

The Wheels on the bus

Today we went for a ride on the Rototuna bus!
We saw the babies crying, the wipers swishing, and heard the horn going beep, beep, beep!
Everybody joined in and we had a lovely trip all around the town.

Infants and Toddlers looked amazing in their dress up costumes!

What a great day we had dressing up as our favourite characters. We had everything from princesses and pumpkins, to elves and pirates. Let's not forget the two Bob the builders and the gorgeous ladybirds. It was a great day enjoyed by all!

Magical Music

We are crazy about music in Infants and Toddlers at the moment! We are having a great time exploring different instruments and making music!

This is our new Piano Mat. We just stand on it and it makes music! We can choose from 8 different instruments and it plays the corresponding sound when we stand or press on the keys.

The Infant and Toddler drummer band! What lovely music you made this morning tamariki! Drums are awesome instruments to play and can be easily played by all children.

Music

Our focus for this term is Music. We will have this as our underlying interest throughout the entire term. we have already done a lot of really exciting musical activities with the children. Here are some photos of what the tamariki have been up to. Music is a great way for the children to learn and have fun at the same time. They can experiment with different ways of making music, use different instruments, learn about cause and effect, for example, how drums make sounds and they experience the joy of movement and dance.

Inthu brought in her piano accordion. The children played along with her using our instruments. The children really enjoyed listening, and in some cases dancing, to Inthus music.

We love getting our scarves out! We have a song called 'make your scarf fly high' and this is becoming very popular with our Infants and Toddlers.

Mounga Tararua

Mounga Tararua has become a favourite song here at Infants and Toddlers. Our tamariki love to sing along and do the actions. Our stars in this video are Shannon, Brooklyn, Elleanor, Sophie and Kayla. When our children perform in front of others like this, it helps to build their confidence. What a great show they put on for us! Ka pai tamariki!
